CALL TO ARTIST: Nourishing and Strengthening the Community: Celebrating Cesar Chavez
In conjunction with Contra Costa County’s Annual Cesar Chavez Commemorative Celebration, all are invited to submit artwork for an exhibit which will showcase the talent of Contra Costa artists in interpreting “Nourishing and Strengthening the Community,” in honor of Cesar Chavez, his leadership and contributions to California’s agricultural community and organized labor. Our theme this year emphasizes the bountiful foods and diverse communities of Contra Costa County and the Bay Area. Your artwork will be shown as part of the March 27th 2018 Art Passages Exhibit presented during the County’s Annual Cesar Chavez Commemorative Celebration. Art Passages is free and open to the public.

The Art Passages gallery is provided by the County and sponsored by the Arts & Culture Commission of Contra Costa County (AC5). The gallery is located in the lobby of the County Administration Building at 651 Pine Street in Martinez, CA, where the artwork does get a lot of visibility. The exhibit will be on display from March 5 through March 30, 2018.

AC5 & Contra Costa County Library invite visual artists (two-dimensional art that can be hung, e.g. oil, watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, etc.) who live and/or work in Contra Costa County to submit their work for consideration. Interested artists must send an email that includes a link to a website that shows samples of your work, or, if you don’t have a website, you may email 2-3 high-resolution images, but please no more than 3 images. (If neither of these options works, contact Sarah Spindle to see if other arrangements can be made.) Artists are welcome submit existing pieces or to create new pieces specifically for this installation that reflects the theme. Please submit your images/ website in an email to sspindle@ccclib.org by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 for consideration. In the email also include:
1. Name
2. Email
3. Phone number
4. Town or City you live in
5. How your piece pertains (or will pertain) to the theme. (Short answer, 3 or 4 sentences is all that is necessary)

Those chosen will be contacted on where and when they can drop off their pieces (location will be in Martinez) and particulars about hanging hardware. All artists are encouraged to attend the celebration. See below for timeline information.
